Keep Your Checking Account Balance Accurate By Saving Your Receipts

Posted in Simple Tip by daryl on the May 3rd, 2007

I always save my receipts until the charge clears my bank. This allows me to know, at all times, exactly how much money I have in my bank account down to the penny. Online banking is great but unfortunately it’s not 100% accurate. Certain charges like restaurant meals and paying at the pump for gas are often incorrect. If you add tip for a meal on your check card, the total amount with tip doesn’t show up until the charge clears. When you pay for gas at the pump, it often shows up on your online account as a pending transaction of $1.00 until the charge clears. If you have big gas tank like my car, which takes about $50 worth, that would throw off your balance total by $49! So save your receipts until the charge clears, a couple small scraps of paper aren’t gonna take up that much space in your wallet.
